What was once the Great Wall of the Han Dynasty, now resembles a smaller version of the of the Qilian mountain range that towers behind it. The Han Wall was the longest version of the Great Wall, with a length of over 10,000 kilometers, stretching from North Korea in the east, to Xinjiang Province in far western China. It was built of pounded earth and stood no more than 10 meters high. This eroded section of the wall that stands in the Hexi Corridor was mostly built by 121 BC, and helped to protect the Northern Silk Road from the Xiongnu, the Mongol Empire of the time. #greatwall #handynasty #hexicorridor #silkroad
