The Great Wall of China that is most often thought of today, dates to the Ming Dynasty and was later built of stone and brick throughout much of China, but the sections of the wall in Gansu are constructed quite differently. The first two photos show a section of wall being rebuilt using traditional techniques of earth-tamping with stone tools. In the final two photos you can see how they alternated layers of earth and reeds to create the wall during the Han Dynasty. #greatwall #handynasty #gansu #silkroad
