In this #surreal solarized #portrait created by Man Ray in 1932, Alberto #Giacometti becomes a totem for Parisian artists. This unique technique is said to have been discovered accidentally by Lee Miller, Man Ray’s assistant and partner. As they were printing in the lab, she felt a rat touching her feet and alarmed by the movement, she screamed and put the light on: "The tanks were full of negatives that were under development. The blacks became whites and a line appeared on the outlines of the figures that seems to have a halo". On view in our #Paris galleries this afternoon and tomorrow (10am – 8pm), coinciding with the opening of Paris Photo.
