“I kept the bottle tops in the studio for several months until the idea eventually came to me that by stitching them together I could get them to articulate some statement. When the process of stitching got underway, I discovered that the result resembled a real fabric cloth” – El Anatsui. Made of aluminium bottle caps and copper wire, ‘Tagomizor’ is a hanging sculptural work from El Anatsui’s ‘Danudo’ Series. Unlike many of the artist’s larger tapestries, which benefit from bunching and rippling, the works in this series were intended to hang flatter. This glimmering tapestry is on view in our #London galleries this weekend, as part of our Modern & Contemporary African Art sale on 16 October. #SothebysAfrican
