"I took the small window of opportunity to get this shot recently between sunset and the almost full moon rising and washing everything out. We were blessed with such a calm night ensuring great reflections, but it was freezing cold, getting down to minus 5 degrees C. Cradle Mountain is such an iconic location and much photographed so I wanted to capture something different. While I was there I met Grace from Singapore who had borrowed her friend’s Nikon D600 but didn’t really know how to use it for night sky photography, so I gave her a bit of manual mode tutoring as we went along. After fumbling around a bit with her torch learning the manual controls Grace was happy with the results. I was happy that I had been able to help someone capture their once in a lifetime shot. You may notice that in the foreground you can see the gravel on the lake bed and a white rock protruding from the water on the lower right, unintentionally appearing thanks to Grace's torchlight!! ? My main tip; familiarise yourself with the manual settings during daylight!!" @planetscapes_photography
