"After shooting the church every visit I'd made to Lake Tekapo, I wanted to shoot the lake this time; and my friends opted to shoot the lake, having shot the church so much as well. So we headed down before sunset hoping for something spectacular as all photographers do. The great thing about Lake Tekapo is that there are so many great compositions with the rocks, lake and surrounding snow-capped mountains. Everyone gets something different. We didn't get the spectacular light show we were hoping for at sunset but the afterglow was sublime. Over the years I've begun to really enjoy making the most of the light there is. A handy tip for people getting into landscape photography: for sunsets-don't pack your gear away too quick. Watch and wait. Just because you don't get the vivid purples and reds doesn't mean you can't get a special image. Sometimes the afterglow is more amazing than the sunset itself. For sunrises - get there at least 30 mins before sunrise, the pretty colours usually happen before the sun rises, sometimes long before. Be there for that." - @kate_werner_photography
