This painting was a gift from Dubuffet to Selz following the artist’s first major New York retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, which Selz put together.⠀

‘Selz loved Dubuffet’s approach to art, and Dubuffet appreciated the curator's connoisseurship,’ explains Davidsohn. The work has hung on the walls of the curator’s home ever since.⠀
