The park, Tayrona, situated on the Caribean coast, in the state of Magdalena, covers an area of 37,000 acres of which 7,000 correspond to coastal waters. The park has a dry tropical climate with temperatures which vary between 59 and 84F. The mayority of the park is covered by virgin tropical forests and is inhabitated by over 100 species of mammals, 200 species of birds and 50 of reptiles.
Visitors range from world wide back packers and more economically solvent business men and their families.
