It is not a crime to be a journalist.
Last Sunday approximately 20 to 30 plain-clothes men entered the offices of the Drik Picture Library in Dhaka, Bangladesh and arrested photojournalist Shahidul Alam. The arrest occurred soon after Alam had spoken out about the recent student protests in Bangladesh. He has been charged under section 57 of Bangladesh’s Information and Communication Technology Act— which could result in 14 years of jail time.
As he was taken to a court hearing he loudly proclaimed that he had been TORTURED while in custody.
