It was founded in 1974 by the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said al Said. The organization oversees equestrian sports across Oman. The Arabian show horse section was the most fascinating to me, where stunningly bred animals with huge alien-esq eyes, dished faces and flared nostrils were stabled. I photographed the grooms, in military uniforms, as they buffed the horse’s coats, oiled their eyes and noses, and platted their long wavy manes. Of all the Arab breeds, these show horses, descending from blood lines for enhancing beauty, are the most unique and recognizable to me.
