We camped out here with our Bedouin guide, Ali Al Warhabi, in the sand dunes near Bidiya, Oman, lay on a Persian carpet under the stars, drank cardamom coffee, ate dates, made a fire and fell asleep to the sound of the wind rushing through the dunes. Kind of romantic, right? We had arrived in the dark and this is the view that I woke up to this morning. A beautiful surprise, but also a terrifying one when I discovered that the only way to reach the road was by rolling our 4x4 straight down the dunes- no one told me, Ali just dropped the car off the edge!
