The Moon naturally fits with our surrounding environment. We are so used to it that often forget its cosmic identity. How bizarre it is to see another world so easily and strikingly in the sky, a world that gravitationally pulls in and out our oceans from 400,000 km away. For a car traveling nonstop at 100km/hr highway speed it takes 6 months to travel the distance. Light travels this in a second.
Next time you see a full moon rising at dusk (June 27/28), remember these and it becomes an unusual sight!
