A woman is embraced after visiting the morgue in Escuintla, Guatemala, on June 4. At least 99 people were killed after Sunday's eruption of the Volcán de Fuego, and some 200 others remain missing. Escuintla, the closest urban center to San Miguel Los Lotes, which was effectively buried in ash, became the location of a shelter for those who were evacuated and a meeting point for those looking for their relatives on the lists of survivors or the dead. "The challenge for me was emotional: a lot of death, and the pain of survivors who were looking for some relatives amid the uncertainty," writes photographer @daniele_volpe, who is on the ground covering the aftermath of #volcano's wrath. "You can sense that you’re walking above the dead." See the full photo essay, and read Volpe's eyewitness account, on TIME.com. Photograph by @daniele_volpe
