Every photographer would instruct me to “arch” so I arched. Eventually, I began walking around and taking pics like that because it accentuated my curves. Oh the things we do for a little validation on the gram.🤷🏽‍♀️ - At the end of 2016, I took a corrective exercise course, realized how out of balance my body was from this improper movement pattern and, abs decided I needed to work towards correcting the damage I hade done to my musculoskeletal system. - Let’s break it down 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 •To achieve an anterior pelvic tilt, like I am in the first photo, you contract the lower back and relax the abdominal muscles. Doing this repeatedly for extended periods of time leads to shortening of the muscles in the lower back and hip flexors and lengthening of the abdominals, hamstrings, and glutes. •Loose muscles, also referred to as lengthened, lack the overall tone to support the skeletal system as they’re intended to. This eventually leads to a chain of compensations all the way up and down the skeletal system in an attempt to regain balance. This means that the load that was meant to be carried by the loosened muscle is now being carried by another muscle(s). So the muscles doing the compensating are now carrying their intended load AND that of another weakened muscle. This leads to wear and tear and leaves you more prone to injury. •Tight, or shortened muscles, begin to pull the bones out of alignment and lead to even more compensations in the body. - So how did I fix it?🤔 Honestly, it’s still a work in progress, but awareness is the most important aspect of fixing an anterior pelvic tilt, or any posture or improper movement pattern for that matter. When you’re aware that you’re doing something harmful to your body, you can begin to take steps towards resolution. So get aware! Notice the way you stand, whether your neck juts forward, your feet pronate (flat feet), or your back bunches forward or arched back. ***CONTINUED IN COMMENTS***
