From 1918-1934, Georgia O'Keeffe spent part of every year at Alfred Stieglitz's family estate located just north of Lake George Village. It was a formative period for O’Keeffe, and about a quarter of her body of paintings are related to the lake. The present example, which has remained in the same private collection since it was acquired in 1977, was a highlight of the recent exhibition ‘Modern Nature: Georgia O’Keeffe and Lake George’ that debuted at The Hyde Collection in Glenn Falls, NY in 2013.
