Mark Zuckerberg will make his much-anticipated appearance before members of Congress starting this afternoon. Greeting him in front of the U.S. Capitol: dozens of cardboard Zuckerbergs installed by the advocacy group Avaaz, which is calling on #Zuckerberg and others to “fight disinformation campaigns threatening our democracies.” In 2 days of hearings, Facebook’s 33-year-old chief executive will face tough questions on how and why the company failed to protect millions of users’ data. The hearings were prompted by the revelation that #CambridgeAnalytica, a British political consulting firm linked to the Trump campaign, harvested data of an estimated 87 million Facebook users. But you can expect the hearings to expand far beyond the Cambridge matter. Senate and House lawmakers will take the opportunity to grill @マーク・ザッカーバーグ on the proliferation of so-called fake news on Facebook and on Russian interference on the platform. @gdemczuk took this photo in front of the @uscapitol.
