5 Things You Didn't Know About Matcha ? 抹茶, まっちゃ I was introduced to matcha when I was 4 or 5—around the same time my mom introduced sushi, ramen, soba, sencha, miso, mochi & okonomiyaki. I can’t even time-stamp it, because I was a lil babe. For my family, matcha is an honorary treat and part of our Japanese heritage. In Kyūshū, Baachan and her youngest sister, my Auntie Takuko, studied tea and matcha under a tea master in Kyūshū. Here are five things my family + my mentors have taught me about the traditional ingredient: 1️⃣matcha (green tea powder; 抹茶, まっちゃ): was created by the Japanese monks. A monk by the name of Esai Myoan, in 1191 A.D. carried tea bricks & seeds by way from China to Japan. The Japanese then created matcha + matcha tea ceremony after careful growth & development. 2️⃣The Samurai ?drank matcha to chill, as matcha is a finely milled green tea powder, that was ceremoniously used to socialize and chill back in the day. 3️⃣Matcha is made of shade-grown, steamed tea leaves, which are ground into a top-quality green tea powder. I traveled to Shiga and Kyoto to study this direct for you. + My friends at Ito En @matchalove & I have been educating on matcha for decades. 4️⃣When you drink matcha, you are consuming the whole tea leaf. Thus, you'll get more antioxidants, vitamin C, and L-theanine (which helps to promote relaxation and focus at the same time) vs any ol' tea bag. 5️⃣I make matcha with my chasen (bamboo whisk) + hot water (175° to 185°F) each morning & I add unsweetened almond milk. It is a ritual for me. ??✨I stay focused af. I've written 6 books like a badazz off the stuff, trust it works. Rumor has it some pro athletes use it as their secret, to perform? +tech geeks, ?no need to microdose or do edibles when you've got matcha ? ?check my site matchamasterclass.com + my new book Kintsugi Wellness for more juicy deets ???⚡️ #Respek thy traditions ????? what do you want to learn more on with matcha?
