“Without you I am sure every place will be the same...”. #Nelson’s liaison with Emma Hamilton both fascinated and scandalised 18th-century England. Pictured here is a portrait of Emma by the great Irish neo-classicist Gavin Hamilton, which once hung in her husband’s salon in Naples. This work and a group of captivating love letters Nelson sent to his famous mistress are part of a collection of 79 objects celebrating Britain's national hero and legend to be offered in our “Of Royal and Noble descent” sale in #London on 17 January.
