Painted circa 1977, Ralph Fasanella’s ‘Mill Workers-Lower Pacific Mill (Working at the Mill)’ is a monumental work from his landmark Lawrence series – one of the most important and visually powerful bodies of historical painting produced in the 20th century by an American artist. One of seven paintings in the series, the work is an arresting and accurate rendering of the industrial movement, and showcases Fasanella’s intense interest in understanding the mechanical technology that shaped the daily life of the mill workers.
