If you suffer from anxiety or depression, this one is for you. 🌊 I just spent some time going through my DMs and have received a few in the past 24 hours from people expressing that they are dealing with anxiety and depression. Responding to them made me want to open up a bit about my experience: I went through a period of depression from 16-18 which resulted in me being baker acted. For those of you who don’t know, when you are considered a threat to yourself or to others, you can be involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility for a minimum of 72 hours. It was a period in my life where I felt lost and misunderstood by others. I was always seeking the love and approval from those around me because I never loved or approved of myself. Getting out of the hospital and trying to acclimate to my life again was extremely difficult. I felt that everyone judged me for what I did, because I now realize, that I judged myself for what I did. It’s taken me years- 10 to be exact- to dissect that period in my life. And truth be told, I’m still uncovering pieces and putting them together as I try to look inward for the answer to the lifelong question: “what is my purpose?” - I believe that the pain of our past leaves wounds. And what happens to a wound if you do not tend to it? It festers and begins to spread, infecting the healthy parts of our lives. It creates resentments, doubts, fears, self-limiting beliefs, pent up anger, and hatred. All of those things taking up precious, finite space. Space that could and would be replaced by joy and happiness and love and acceptance. Space that needs to be made before it can be filled again by the beauty and understanding that you crave in your life. - Tend to your wounds. See how dressing them and caring for them turns them into the scars of lessons. Allow them to teach you so that you can heal. Forgive yourself for whatever it is that you carry. Release the guilt. - If you are battling through it, don’t give up. Keep moving forward and work on getting to know and love yourself through the process. If hating yourself while you’re down hasn’t worked yet, then it’s time you try a little love and see how it transforms you.💫💕
