Looking for the sublime? ?@sahiltner found it in Switzerland’s Lauterbrunnen Valley. 9 hours into a hike there, having climbed to 7,400 feet, he felt “a curious amalgam of fear, serenity, exhaustion and awe.” Pain, too. This valley is breathtaking in its majesty: a narrow glacial ravine crowded with waterfalls and enclosed by sheer cliff faces that rise more than 1,500 feet on either side, with hamlets and farming villages lining its miles-long corridor. “Few places on earth have the power to evoke sublimity in such a profound and inspiring way,” @sahiltner writes in @nytimestravel. Among the others who’ve been inspired by Lauterbrunnen: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, William Wordsworth and Lord Byron.
