On view from Monday in #Dubai: this stunning 17th century #Persian carpet fragment from the eclectic collection of British artist Sir Howard #Hodgkin. Carpet fragments are fundamental to his collection, and their ability to reveal the potent detail of a work, which may otherwise be overshadowed, proved a continuous inspiration. The intensity and richness of the #crimson ground is beguiling and the #beautiful drawing of the ‘C’ scrolls, palmettes and cloudbands, remarkable. The main production centre for these prized and expensive commodities was the #imperial city of #Isfahan where Shah Abbas moved his court in 1643.
