✨f r o m t h e d e s k o f c a n d i c e k u m a i Wow. So this is my last weekend of writing in the city.. I just wrapped up another chapter of edits + perfected my manuscript at my desk. So, so much happened in this apartment on Wall Street. I wrote three books here, I launched my best website, I closed the Wall Street New York Stock Exchange, twice. I was a columnist & editor at large at two top publications. I wrote for Cosmo, Elle, InStyle, Bon Appétit, Shape, Self, Yoga Journal & had a feature in the Wall Street Journal. I got to cook with everyone. I served the Obama Administration & the White House Initiative for Asian American Pacific Islanders. I was nominated to speak at the US Japan Council + The Japan Society. I survived the worst breakup of my life at this very spot & learned a great deal of who I truly was, deeply, my true self. I signed with Adidas, Chanel + Origins, here. I signed my 6th book deal, with Harper Collins, here. I shot my first book, on my own. I was invited to speak at SoHo House & the Deepak Chopra Center, 6x. I've probably cried more times than I can count. I've certainly spent, thousands of hours here, shooting, writing, cooking, working on becoming of better service to you. Figuring out who I am, how to lay the pavement & be an example for young women to follow. I chose to be single, here, I definitely dated my share, here (?ewee) I gave my everything, here. And as I look back on this next chapter, I proudly choose to work on the pavement. I'm keeping my head down, and staying humbled by the shit I endured. Trust that w/ these successes, about double the amount of struggles, I overcame. You'll see, there is no need to compare, gossip or talk poorly about others. Trust that karma does exist, but don't count on it. There is no need to look back, because sometimes all you can see is trees...in moving forward, in coming out, you will be able to see the whole forest. Be yourself, stop looking around, and look forward. For the greats, the originals, the irreplaceables, for those are the ones who lay pavement & continue to just be themselves. Move forward, create change. Be fearless.
