?Day 10 of the #31daypbpu ? We've been having atakilt wat (spiced cabbage with potatoes and carrots) with red lentils for lunch this week. This dish is native to Ethiopia and uses the spice blend "Berbere" which is a staple in Ethiopian cooking! ?? This was a step outside of everyone's comfort zone but damn was it worth it!??❤️ - Whenever I used to cook, I would stick to the spices that I knew and those that were native to my parents' culture and cooking. Since going vegan, my palate has EXPLODED as I've gotten more confident with seasoning my food.? I've noticed that in the states, we rely WAYYY too much on salt, butter, and other dairy products like cheese, milk, and cream to season our food! Spices are hella healthy for you- they are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants- and virtually contain no calories. Soooo ditch the side of the spice containers that have the holes in 'em and go with the pourable side!? I like to smell and taste as I combine my spices so that I make sure that I'm not way off. Lol Practice makes progress! I also love to visit the spice aisle and pick out a new one or blend when I go. Get creative and have fun in the kitchen.? - We'll be announcing our next Plant-Based Power-Up at the end of the month!
