Since May, @nyc_ferry has been giving New Yorkers a new way to travel among East River ports in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, with stops including East 34th Street, Brooklyn Bridge Park and Rockaway Beach. It’s inexpensive (a one-way trip is $2.75) and quick. The ride from Wall Street to Greenpoint, for example, takes only 21 minutes. Each ferry is 86 feet long and looks more like a yacht than public transportation. There are cup-holders and electrical outlets at seats. There’s an open-air deck with picnic tables. There’s a boutique that sells beach toys and coloring books, as well as a snack counter. And, crucially, there’s a bar stocked with rosé and beer. While the ferries were mainly commissioned to help New Yorkers commute, many are also using them as picturesque and affordable options for socializing. (This isn’t the first time a boat has lightened up the commute, of course; the Staten Island Ferry has a long history of offering cold beers and excellent views from its upper decks.) The photographer @arnold_daniel took this photo while on assignment aboard the East River #Ferry. #⛴️
