Village indigobirds are brood parasites, meaning they lay their eggs in the nests of other birds-- specifically those of red-bellied finches. Although many birds who take over the nests of others often destroy the host’s eggs, the village indigobird leaves them all intact.
Males of this species are territorial and perform a complex fighting display during courtship. While males boast a beautiful bluish-black plumage like this one, females appear light brown in color.
