The Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA) advises the Elected President on the exercise of his powers. The President has to consult the CPA on matters concerning the reserves, and key public service appointments such as the Chief Justice and Attorney-General.

After the recent Constitutional changes, the CPA now comprises 8 full members and 2 alternate members. At this afternoon’s swearing-in ceremony, Mr Lim Chee Oon and Mr Stephen Lee Ching Yen became full members, and Mr Chua Thian Poh an alternate member. Mr Bahren Shaari was also appointed an alternate member, but will be sworn in later.
The CPA and the Elected President together make up the ‘second key’ that protects our reserves and the integrity of our public service.
