If it seemed like the runways in New York, London, Milan and Paris were more diverse than usual this season, that’s because they were. @thefashionspotofficial, a web publication and forum for fashion insiders, assessed 241 shows and found that 27.9% of the models who walked the fall 2017 runways were minorities; this is the highest proportion recorded since the publication began tracking the data 2 and a half years ago. @thefashionspotofficial used to look only at racial diversity, but in later reports, it began assessing size, age and transgender identity as well. This season, 30 plus-size models, 21 women aged 50 or older and 12 transgender models walked the runways. The photographer @vnina photographed @_muhammed7 and @jesivtaylor backstage at the fall 2017 @gypsysport show in New York.
