From @nytarchives: In April 1966, our photographer Larry Morris visited #AndyWarhol’s downtown club, Dom. Onstage that night: members of the Velvet Underground. Few of the photos Larry took were published alongside the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ article that focused on the “temporary cinema-discotheque.” And while the group received a mention, “getting its name right was not yet a priority,” writes our reporter @joecoscarelli. The original article said that guests could “grope their way to the dance floor in blackness that is broken only by hallucinatory flashes of multicolored lights in order to wriggle, writhe and tremble to the music of the Velvet Undergrounds, a 4-piece band whose chanteuse is a fashion model answering only to the name of Nico.” Just 2 weeks after these @nytarchives photos were taken, the group would record its first professional demos of songs like “I’ll Be Your Mirror” and “Heroin.” And a half a century ago this month, the #VelvetUnderground released its debut LP, “The Velvet Underground & Nico.” Swipe left to see more photos by Larris Morris, including a picture of the #VelvetUnderground onstage. #tbt
