#throwback to this splendid study for the first version of his sculpture, Risen Christ, now in the church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva in Rome.

The process of creating Risen Christ was long and complicated, taking over four years to complete. Michelangelo later abandoned this first version and the intended location for the work changed three times. When it was finally finished, Risen Christ became one of the most admired sculpture in 16th century Rome.
