The photographer @markmakela photographed this fire hydrant last February in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was on #nytassignment at the time for a story about how the mayor found himself under siege while trying to rescue Atlantic City from financial calamity. But when @markmakela captured this scene, he was fixated on something else: color. For the past couple of years, the Philadelphia-based photographer has kept his eyes peeled for primary colors: red, yellow and blue. He’s interested in the relationship between the different hues. “When you’re hunting color, everything is exotic,” @markmakela said. “There's no need to board a plane.” This #nytweekender, we’ll be sharing more photos from #primarilyfocused, @markmakela’s exploration of #color.
