@adamjdean photographed the rubble that remains behind Fort Mahakan, one of the oldest structures in #Bangkok, after the Thai government demolished several homes in September. Under pressure from the government, the residents of 12 former homes accepted compensation and moved away. But others stayed. Their tiny village of elaborate wood buildings — incongruous among the temples and palaces of Bangkok’s historic core — date back more than a century. And for more than 20 years, many residents have resisted a government order to move out and make way for a public park. But now, the deadline for eviction is approaching. Some see a deeper story in the struggle over the fate of the people — it’s a clash over the character of historic sites and the meaning of preservation. The question: Is a community part of the area’s history?
