In Liberia, people living in remote communities must hike for hours or even days — sometimes canoeing through the jungle — to get medical care. Many will go their entire lives without visiting a doctor, which puts them at high risk of dying from easily treatable diseases. That’s why Raj Panjabi founded Last Mile Health, which expands healthcare access to remote regions by training, employing and equipping community health workers. In the past year, its workers have conducted more than 42,000 patient visits in their regions, and treated nearly 22,000 cases of malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea in children. We’re thrilled to announce that Raj Panjabi is the winner of the 2017 TED Prize. Learn more about Raj’s #TEDPrize wish at go.ted.com/ruralcare
