Just got back from Australia, and learnt the sad news of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s passing.

King Bhumibol was the world's longest-serving monarch, much beloved and revered by his people. He dedicated himself wholly to his country and to improving his people’s lives. His wise leadership and enormous prestige held the country together.

After becoming PM in 2004, I visited Thailand. King Bhumibol received me at his palace in Hua Hin. He was most gracious and expounded to me his ideas for developing the rural parts of the country, and improving the lives of farmers.
