Singapore and Australia are very different countries. Australia has abundant natural resources and is more than 10,000 times the size of Singapore (in fact, we are smaller than many sheep farms there!). They are traditionally Anglo-Saxon in identity, while we are an Asian society.
Despite this, we have forged a deep and longstanding friendship. Not just because of shared strategic interests, but also because our peoples share similar outlooks. There are also many human connections between our peoples. PM Malcolm Turnbull’s granddaughter, Isla, was born in Singapore last year (making her an SG50 baby)! That is why I am happy we have concluded the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which will make us even closer partners.
