“I’ve slept on it, and I’m sure,” writes @ニューヨーク・タイムズ critic Wesley Morris. “A 24-Decade History of Popular Music” — @taylormacnyc’s marathon drag show performance at @stannswarehouse in Brooklyn — was one of the “great experiences” of Wesley’s life. The show included 246 songs spanning 240 years performed over the course of 24 straight hours. #TaylorMac moved between genres of American music: battle hymns, black spirituals, war ballads, minstrel tunes, works songs, Tin Pan Alley, Broadway musicals, Motown, Top 40 and lesbian-feminist punk done up in Afro-beat, the blues and Laurie Anderson sci-fi. He remembered all the lyrics and most of Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself.” And he sang them — in every imaginable style, at every tempo, with every possible facial expression. Although sleeping bags were given to the audience, the price of admission also seemed to include a night of dreamlessness. The @ニューヨーク・タイムズ staff photographer Sara Krulwich photographed @taylormacnyc mid-performance. #SAWTaylorMac
