Meet the undisputed pumpkin queen of America. Sarah Frey (@trustmeimafarmer) doesn’t fit the image you may have of a #pumpkin farmer. She’s got a taste for fedoras and an impressive collection of @フライ boots. She also has farmland in 7 states and millions of dollars’ worth of produce contracts in her drawer. If you’ve bought a pumpkin at @Wal-Mart Stores, Inc or @loweshomeimprovement, the odds are good it’s one of hers. But right now, she’s over orange pumpkins. “That’s a terrible thing to say, because our biggest percentage of acreage is jacks,” @trustmeimafarmer said, using field shorthand for the basic big orange Halloween model: ?. “But it’s just not where I’m at with pumpkins.” She thinks America is ready to cook, not carve. And the fact that the pumpkin queen wants people to think beyond the jack-o’-lantern means that it’s probably going to happen. Aaron Borton took this photo while on assignment in Poseyville, Indiana.
