The photographer @george_etheredge took this photo in Grimes, a small town on the edge of the Des Moines, Iowa. In this central part of the state, many conservative evangelicals feel as though they’ve been abandoned. Other Americans are anxious about the economy, jobs and terrorism, but these conservative Christians say they fear for the nation’s very soul. Americans are leaving church, same-sex marriage is the law of the land, and the country has moved on to debating transgender rights. And then there’s the presidential race. Polls show that the vast majority of evangelicals are now uniting around @ドナルド・トランプ, largely out of fear that @ヒラリー・クリントン would appoint liberal Supreme Court justices. But some evangelicals say Christians who praise the Republican candidate are giving Christianity a bad name. They blame evangelicals in the South or “Nascar Christians,” believers who go to church only when car races aren’t on. Visit the link in our profile to read more about the evangelicals who say they have no true champion in the presidential race.
