A BMX rider jumped the spine ramp at @mullalybikepark in the Bronx in July. Steps away from Yankee Stadium, the photographer @elias.williams has been documenting a group of BMX enthusiasts who’ve made a welcoming and self-sustaining community. As they spin, glide up and down ramps, do 180-degree turns and more, their celebration of #BMX culture represents more than 3 decades of change at @mullalybikepark. In the 1980s, an intrepid BMX crew called the Rad Dogs began the transformation. A few years later, volunteers began setting up ramps, maintaining the place and keeping bikes in shape. Today, the park attracts a cross section of riders. They come from as far away as Argentina to ride, listen to music, play chess or just hang out. While @elias.williams doesn’t ride much anymore — an accident led him to cut back a few years ago — he feels the tug of community at @mullalybikepark. “Being able to photograph riders and make portraits of them, it felt like I’m riding a bike,” he told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ #lensblog.
