Countless noises set off dogs: thunderstorms, jackhammers, lawn mowers, coffee grinders. And then, on the #FourthofJuly: #fireworks. Drives dogs crazy, all that noise. Veterinarians tell stories about dogs who took refuge in hiding places so tight that they got stuck, who gnawed on door handles, who crashed through windows or raced into traffic — all desperate efforts to escape inexplicable collisions of noise and flashing light. Ernie Sisto, a photographer who worked at the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ for nearly 50 years, captured this pooch, cowering at the sight of a firecracker, on July 2, 1952. We don't know much about the photo, which we found in the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ #archives, but we assume it was posed. ???
