This is a surfer swimming alongside a shark. Conservation photographer Thomas Peschak strives to show humans and animals living in harmony. On assignment, he often sees sharks, manta rays, whales, and other creatures that humans have killed. But his photos of that destruction rarely moved people to act. Instead, he found that showing their playful side helped inspire more peaceful coexistence. “I always operate on the assumption that the next great picture that will affect change is right around the corner, behind the next coral head, inside the next lagoon,” he says.
