Pleased to see quite a few female students majoring in electrical skills and electronics at the Singapore-Myanmar Vocational Training Institute (SMVTI) in Yangon yesterday.
SMVTI came about when Myanmar leaders asked us to help in skills training. In 2014, both sides signed an MOU to set up the Institute. We assisted in building the premises, and also deployed 3 ITE staff to develop the curriculum and help run the school.
The Institute trains skilled workers for industries in Myanmar. Entry to the six-month courses is very competitive, and I found the students bright and keen. It is one example of the friendship and cooperation between Singapore and Myanmar. – LHL (Photo by me)
