Last month, Sandra Green Thomas read a @ニューヨーク・タイムズ article that described a slave sale that was conducted in 1838 to help the college now known as @georgetownuniversity stay afloat. “I saw the photo of the cemetery, and I saw Maringouin, Louisiana,” Sandra said. “I went to the website of Georgetown’s slavery archive and saw the names of my relatives.” Sandra, 54, is one reader that, with the help of a genealogist, we have been able to confirm was a descendant of the 272 slaves sold by @georgetownuniversity. “In the mid-1990s, I lived within walking distance of Georgetown,” Sandra said. “I was pushing my babies around in a stroller, going on campus, without knowing anything about the connection.” @misterwidmer photographed Sandra at her home in New Orleans. Pictured behind her are her great-grandparents, William Harris and Charity Harris, who were slaves in Maringouin, and descendents of those sold by Georgetown.
