I was standing up in a small boat while making this image, working with a very patient boat driver who positioned me perfectly, so I could frame the houses through the hole in the ice. Many of the glaciers on Greenland have 'speeded up’, that is the rate at which they transport ice from the ice sheet out to the ocean has increased. Glaciers are feeling the heat, not just from a rise in atmospheric temperatures, but also from warmer ocean currents.
