What do you do when you can’t afford your town? Dismantle it. @tspinski photographed a road near Cary Plantation, a community of about 200 people in Maine that has no school, no police department and no stoplights. There are, however, property taxes in Cary, and some residents say the tax hikes have pushed the community to the brink. To save it, they want to join the Unorganized Territory, a swath of forest and townships in north, central and eastern Maine run by a partnership between the state and the counties.
