@markmakela photographed this mural of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the Brewerytown section of Philadelphia while on #nytassignment in December. Dr. King probably did not foresee a black president celebrating the 50th anniversary of his “I have a dream” speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial. And he surely couldn’t have imagined a monument to himself just a short walk away. But #MLK did dream of a future in which the U.S. embarked on “the sunlit path of racial justice,” and he foresaw that 1963 was “not an end, but a beginning.” #MLKday
