Photo: @stephenwilkes | A small portion of my final image, a Day To Night of the Grand Canyon. When photographing from an outdoor location, inclement weather is always an enormous concern. In the days leading up to this 27 hour shoot, I probably checked weather reports 100 times. Clouds are good, but an overcast day can dampen the view. With this image, I got incredible lucky. As the sun rose I realized it was going to be a dramatic, sunny day. Grateful for the light and beautiful clouds, I photographed at the end July hoping to be lucky enough to capture a summer storm. Then, as twilight began, I looked off into the distance to find storm clouds moving in, remaining safely in the distance. The storm lasted just long enough for me to capture this one perfect lightning bolt, moving along and leaving behind a peaceful moon lit night. Having the opportunity to see the Grand Canyon transition from day into night was truly magical. Be sure to follow me @stephenwilkes to see more images from Day To Night including behind the scenes photos from my trips to our National Parks. To those in the NYC area, you can view this image in person by stopping by my Day To Night exhibition, currently at@brycewolkowitz gallery in Chelsea.
