A group of regulars enjoys their trip to the famous Sanduny bathhouse in Moscow with dried fish and beer. The history of the Sanduny begins with the 18th century love affair between Sila Sandunov and Elizaveta Uranova, star actors of the court theater of Empress Elizabeth II, who founded the bathhouse on the occasion of their marriage. The Sanduny became the focal point of Moscow’s elite, serving as a social club, clinic and bathhouse proper. Today, it remains a unique and revered recreational center, still regarded as the best bathhouse in the city. Listed in 1991 as one of the city’s historic and architectural landmarks, Sanduny has preserved its rich 18th century ambience while integrating high-tech facilities, providing varied services to satisfy the tastes of even its most demanding customers.
