Happy Halloween! During a Mariachi festival, many within the Hispanic community in California’s Imperial County dress in costumes reminiscent of Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead), to perform dances and enjoy traditional foods sold at stands. Dia de Muertos, originally celebrated in Mexico at the beginning of summer, was moved to coincide with the Christian Allhallowtide (later Halloween) following Spanish colonization in the 16th century.
