Helmut Schmidt, former Chancellor of West Germany, sadly passed away today at the age of 96. In 1976, I accompanied him on a state visit to Turkey and Saudi Arabia. However, my favorite image from the trip was not of any politician but of the Saudi bodyguards resting before the motorcade arrived.
